Deep tissue massage at Feel Amazing Wellness Centre in Chatswood is a technique commonly used for muscle tension, chronic tightness and sports-related strain. It involves applying slower, more sustained pressure to areas of restriction and tension within the muscles and surrounding soft tissues. The aim is to help reduce tightness, improve movement and support recovery where muscles feel particularly restricted or overworked.
How to book
Deep tissue is a technique your therapist can use as part of a remedial massage, not a separate booking type. Book a remedial massage and let your therapist know you prefer firmer, deeper work. They will apply deep tissue techniques where needed.
Who is deep tissue massage for?
Deep tissue massage is suited to people dealing with persistent or deep-seated muscle issues. You might benefit from deep tissue massage if you are:
- Carrying chronic muscle tension or tightness that lighter massage hasn’t resolved
- Dealing with a stubborn knot or area of tension that keeps coming back
- Recovering from a muscle strain or soft tissue injury
- Experiencing restricted movement or stiffness in a particular area
- Someone who generally prefers a firmer massage
Deep tissue massage is not about enduring excessive pain or using the strongest pressure possible. More pressure does not always create a better outcome, and overly aggressive treatment can sometimes leave muscles feeling more irritated rather than relieved. Our therapists focus on working with your body, not against it, adjusting pressure and technique based on how your muscles respond during the session.
What happens in a deep tissue massage session
Your therapist will discuss your areas of concern and what you are experiencing before beginning. During the session, they use slower, firmer techniques designed to work into areas of deeper tension and restriction within the muscles. Treatment is always adjusted based on your comfort level, your preferences, and how your body responds on the day.
Your therapist will check in with you on pressure throughout. While deep tissue work can be intense in moments, it should not be painful. Communication is important, so let your therapist know how you are feeling during the session.
30 minutes focuses on one specific area of deep tension.
45 minutes allows time to work through a primary area and surrounding muscles.
60 minutes provides time for more thorough work across multiple areas.
90 minutes is ideal for addressing several areas of chronic tightness in one session.
What to expect after your session
After a deep tissue massage, it is common to feel some soreness for 24 to 48 hours, similar to the feeling after a strong workout. This usually settles as the muscles relax and recover following treatment.
- Drink plenty of water to help your body process the treatment
- Apply a heat pack to any areas that feel tender
- Avoid strenuous activity for the rest of the day
- Gentle stretching can help your muscles settle
- A warm bath with Epsom salts can ease any residual soreness
The soreness typically gives way to noticeably improved movement and reduced tension. Many clients find that the initial discomfort is well worth the result.
How deep tissue massage works with our other services
For areas of tightness that are particularly stubborn, dry needling can be added to your session to help release trigger points before the deeper massage work.
Reducing deep muscle tension may help the body move more freely and can work well alongside chiropractic care as part of a broader treatment approach.
Appointments available seven days a week.
