Pregnancy massage is one of our specialties at Feel Amazing Wellness Centre in Chatswood. We have been providing pregnancy massage for many years and regularly work with women throughout all stages of pregnancy, from conception through to birth.
Pregnancy massage is tailored to the unique changes that occur in the body during pregnancy. Treatment focuses on helping reduce physical discomfort, encouraging relaxation, and helping you feel more comfortable and at ease as your body changes over time.
What makes our pregnancy massage different
We use specialty pregnancy cushions designed to properly support the pregnant body during treatment, allowing most women to lie comfortably either face down or on their side throughout pregnancy. This provides additional support for the pelvis, lower back and growing abdomen, while also allowing your therapist to treat the body more comfortably and effectively.
We have invested in this equipment because it makes a significant difference to both comfort and treatment quality. Many women are surprised by how comfortable they feel during their massage, even later in pregnancy.
Who is pregnancy massage for
Pregnancy massage is for anyone at any stage of pregnancy who would benefit from hands-on care.
- Lower back, hip or pelvic discomfort
- Neck and shoulder tension
- Leg cramps or swelling
- General aches and pains as your body adapts to pregnancy
- Fatigue, both physical and mental
- Difficulty sleeping or finding a comfortable position
- Stress or anxiety during pregnancy
Even if you are not experiencing specific discomfort, pregnancy massage can provide valuable time to slow down, relax and support your body through a physically and emotionally demanding time.
What happens in a pregnancy massage session
Your therapist will ask about your stage of pregnancy, any areas of concern, how you are feeling and any health considerations. You will be positioned comfortably using our specialty cushion system so you can lie safely.
The massage is tailored to your individual needs using gentle to moderate pressure. Your therapist will focus on the areas that need the most attention while being mindful of the specific considerations that come with treating during pregnancy.
Session lengths
45 minutes allows time to address your main areas of concern.
60 minutes allows for more thorough treatment and deeper relaxation.
Is pregnancy massage safe
Current evidence supports pregnancy massage throughout pregnancy when provided by a qualified practitioner experienced in pregnancy care.
As with any treatment during pregnancy, if you have underlying health concerns or a high-risk pregnancy, we recommend discussing treatment with your midwife, obstetrician or doctor before booking.
What to expect after your session
Most women feel noticeably more relaxed and physically comfortable after a pregnancy massage. Many also notice reduced muscle tension, improved ease of movement and a greater sense of overall relaxation.
- Drink plenty of water
- Take it easy for the rest of the day if possible
- Let your therapist know how you felt at your next appointment
Pre and postnatal care at Feel Amazing
Being part of your pregnancy experience is a privilege, and at Feel Amazing we value being able to offer treatments that can help a woman feel nurtured and supported during this time.
We offer a supportive, multidisciplinary approach to pregnancy care. Pregnancy massage provides hands-on care for your changing body throughout pregnancy. With chiropractic, you receive postural support and musculoskeletal care during pregnancy. With acupuncture, you can access pregnancy acupuncture for symptoms such as nausea, sleep issues and anxiety, plus acupuncture for birth preparation and induction support from around week 35. Our naturopath offers dietary and lifestyle support, addressing morning sickness, energy and overall wellbeing during pregnancy via online consultation.
If you are unsure what you might need, booking a pregnancy massage is often a good starting point. We can talk to you about what else might help from there.
Preparing for birth
Acupuncture and acupressure are sometimes used in the later stages of pregnancy to help support relaxation and prepare the body for birth. Treatment is generally recommended from around week 35 onwards. We often work with midwives who are familiar with the benefits of this treatment.
Post-birth care
Caring for a baby places new physical demands on the body through feeding, carrying, lifting and interrupted sleep. Our practitioners are here to help support your comfort and recovery during the postnatal period.
We also love to hear how it went and catch up with your news when you return for postnatal treatments.
