Remedial massage is the most common treatment we provide at Feel Amazing Wellness Centre in Chatswood. It is a hands-on treatment focused on restoring health and function through the systematic assessment and treatment of muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues. Whether you are dealing with pain, injury, tension or just the general wear and tear of daily life, remedial massage is designed to address your specific needs.
It is also the booking type to choose if you are not sure what you need. Your therapist will use the right combination of techniques for what your body needs on the day, whether that is deep tissue work, sports-focused treatment, relaxation or a mix of approaches. You do not need to work this out before you book. Just let us know what is going on when you arrive, or add a note when booking online.
Who is remedial massage for?
Remedial massage suits a wide range of people and situations. You might benefit from it if you are:
- Experiencing back, neck or shoulder pain from desk work, study or daily activities
- Recovering from an injury or surgery
- Dealing with ongoing muscle tension or stiffness
- Waking up with aches, a stiff neck, or finding it hard to get comfortable at night
- Carrying physical tension from stress
- Looking for treatment that addresses the cause, not just the symptoms
Our therapists see these concerns every day and will work with you to find the right approach for your body on the day.
What happens in a session
When you arrive, your therapist will introduce themselves and ask what you would like from the session, including any areas of concern, your preferences for pressure and how you are feeling. They will also discuss your health history and gain your consent before treatment begins. This helps them tailor the session safely and appropriately to you.
During the massage, your therapist uses their hands to find problem areas and applies a variety of techniques to release tightness. These may include deep tissue work, trigger point therapy, acupressure, lymphatic drainage and myofascial release, depending on what your body needs. Massage oil is used on the skin so the therapist’s hands can glide smoothly.
You don’t have to choose a specific technique when you book. Our therapists are trained across multiple modalities and will use whatever is most appropriate for your presenting needs.
Session lengths
30 minutes for focused work on a specific area, such as the neck and shoulders or lower back.
45 minutes to address a primary concern and the surrounding areas.
60 minutes is our most popular option, allowing thorough treatment across multiple areas.
90 minutes is ideal for more complex concerns, or when you simply want a longer, more thorough session.
What to expect afterwards
The immediate effect is often a sense of physical lightness, reduced restriction and improved mobility. Many clients notice they can move more freely after treatment, especially if they arrived feeling tight or limited in a particular area. Some also describe feeling deeply relaxed, sleepy, or as though they are floating out the door.
In the days following your massage:
- Some soreness is normal, particularly if muscles were tight or haven’t been treated before. This usually settles within 24 hours and is similar to the feeling after a good workout.
- Drink extra water, especially after deeper treatment. Some people feel a little lightheaded when getting up from the table. Take your time, sit for a moment if you need to, and you are welcome to rest in reception until you feel ready to leave.
- Take it easy if you feel fatigued. Rest if your body is telling you to.
- Gentle stretching in a warm shower, or a bath with Epsom salts, can help with any residual soreness.
Let your therapist know how you felt at your next appointment so they can adjust your treatment. Sometimes it takes a couple of sessions to get on top of more chronic symptoms, and the more regularly you have treatment, the better your body adapts.
How remedial massage works with our other services
