Sports massage at Feel Amazing Wellness Centre in Chatswood is focused on treating sports injuries, preparing the body for physical activity and supporting recovery afterwards. Whether you are a weekend runner, a competitive athlete or someone who trains regularly, sports massage can help support recovery, reduce muscle tension and keep your body moving well through training and activity.

We work with junior and senior athletes across a wide range of sports and physical activities, including running, football, rugby league, rowing, swimming, fencing, tennis and basketball, just to name a few.

How to book

Sports massage is a treatment approach, not a separate booking type. Book a remedial massage and mention your sport, training or what you are recovering from. Your therapist will apply sports-specific techniques as part of your session.

Who is sports massage for?

Sports massage is suitable for anyone engaged in regular physical activity. You might benefit from sports massage if you are:

You don’t need to be an elite athlete. If you use your body actively and it is feeling the effects, sports massage can help.

What happens in a sports massage session

Your therapist will ask about your sport, training schedule, any current injuries or areas of concern, and what you are hoping to achieve from the session. This helps them target the treatment to your needs.

Sports massage involves hands-on treatment using techniques that may include deep tissue work, stretching and targeted treatment to help improve mobility and reduce muscle restriction. The pressure is often firmer than a relaxation massage, but your therapist will always work within your comfort level and adjust treatment based on your feedback and how your body responds on the day.

Pre-event massage focuses on warming up muscles, improving circulation and preparing the body for activity. It is typically shorter and more targeted.

Post-event or recovery massage focuses on relieving muscle tension, reducing inflammation and supporting the body’s healing process after exertion.

Maintenance massage is regular treatment between events to keep muscles functioning well, address developing tightness and reduce the risk of injury over time.

What to expect after your session

After a sports massage, you may notice reduced tightness, improved movement and a greater sense of physical ease. Some soreness is normal, particularly if deeper work was done on muscles that are tight, fatigued or recovering from heavy activity. This usually settles within 24 to 48 hours.

How sports massage works with our other services

Sports massage and dry needling combine well, as dry needling can target stubborn trigger points and areas of deep tightness that are difficult to release through massage alone. It can be added to your session.

For injuries involving joints, alignment or biomechanics, combining massage with chiropractic care can address both the soft tissue and structural components.

Recovery nutrition, anti-inflammatory support and supplement advice from our naturopath can complement your physical treatment.

We also work alongside physiotherapists, podiatrists, GPs and other health professionals so your treatment can complement any other care or rehabilitation you may already be receiving.

Appointments available seven days a week.

Massage is a hands-on therapy designed to support your overall health and wellbeing. If you have a serious health condition, please consult your GP or specialist. Our therapists will take a health history, discuss any concerns, and gain your consent before treatment begins.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between sports massage and remedial massage?

Sports massage uses many of the same techniques as remedial massage but is specifically focused on the demands of physical activity, whether that is preparing for an event, recovering from one, or maintaining the body between training. Remedial massage has a broader focus on general musculoskeletal health. Your therapist can combine elements of both.

How soon before an event should I get a sports massage?

A maintenance or pre-event massage can be done in the days leading up to an event. Avoid having deep tissue work done the day before a major event, as your muscles may need time to recover. Your therapist can advise on timing based on your situation.

How soon after training or a game can I get a massage?

A recovery massage can be beneficial within 24 to 48 hours after activity. If you have an acute injury, let us know when booking so we can advise on the best approach.

How often should I get a sports massage?

For regular athletes, fortnightly or monthly maintenance sessions can help keep the body functioning well between training. During heavier training periods or leading up to an event, more frequent sessions may be beneficial. We generally recommend allowing at least 48 hours between deeper treatments, so your body has time to recover and respond.

Can I claim sports massage on my health fund?

Yes. Sports massage is provided under remedial massage, which is the registered treatment type for health fund claims. HICAPS is available for on-the-spot claiming.
